All eight steps

Step 4 of 8 · 25 minutes

Install WordPress

Most WordPress hosts provide an installer. The names of the buttons vary, but the result is the same: your site and its dashboard.

Follow these actions

01

Open your hosting dashboard

Find the WordPress or website installation option. Select the domain you want to use, then choose a new WordPress installation.

02

Set the administrator account

Use your own email address and a long, unique password. Do not use “admin” as the username if the installer lets you choose another.

03

Finish installation

Wait for the success screen. Save the dashboard address; it is usually your domain followed by /wp-admin/.

04

Check the public site

Open the domain in a separate browser tab. The starting page should load even if it still contains sample content.

05

Check HTTPS and updates

The address should begin with https:// and the browser should show a secure connection. In the dashboard, apply available WordPress updates after a backup.

Keep in mind

Never send your administrator password to someone who offers to “finish the setup” for you.

Before you move on

I can log in to the WordPress dashboard.

The public site loads.

The site uses HTTPS.
