Prepare for search

A few basic checks help visitors and search engines understand your site. Search traffic is never guaranteed.

Follow these actions

01

Set your site title

In Settings → General, use a clear site title and a short tagline that describes the website.

02

Review page headings

Give each page one clear main heading. Use subheadings to break up longer sections.

03

Choose readable URLs

Review Settings → Permalinks. Use a readable post-name style rather than numeric links, then save.

04

Describe useful images

In each image block, write alt text that conveys the image’s purpose when it matters to understanding the page. Decorative images can have empty alt text.

05

Review privacy

State what data your site collects, such as messages, analytics, or mailing-list signups. Match the policy to your actual tools.

06

Connect search tools later

Once the site is public, verify it in Google Search Console if you want search reporting. An analytics tool is optional.
